“Dear Jean. We love you. You were a light and joyful friend to our Mother and our family all these years. Hurrah for a life well lived. Gerrit, Brian and Marguerite I know that you will have the comfort of her love and memories to sustain you. I am grateful to have known her. Much Love”

Katie Taylor

“We shared a joy for flowers, culture, tasty food, and a love of the gospel. Age was no barrier to our friendship and I cherished having such a kind, wise, loving, insightful and generous friend. Our adventures included bouquet D’arts, ballet, Japanese tea gardens, lunch at Pacific Catch among other things. I will cherish the post cards, birthday cards, red envelopes, and double plum pin from her. Blessed to have known her. Aloha Jean! ”

“Recently, I was sharing experiences with Jean as part of a church lesson. She brought love, kindness, and wisdom to all who knew her!

In her 60’s, she invited Margaret Sundberg to co host play group with her for grandson Sterling and 5 crazy boys. They were the only ones who could handle those 6 boys! The rest of us young mothers were in over our heads!

Jean was my visiting teaching partner and taught me much about love and life.

She was thoughtful and continued to be my friend after we moved from PA. I’m so grateful for her ongoing influence on my life!”

“We miss you, grandma Jean. Thank you for always being excited to see us and our children; for all the hours you spent sitting in the kitchen, playing with and talking to Tom and Bo; for all of your letters; and for all the love. We will never forget you, and look forward to being with you again.”

“Sister Jean Gong, or “Abuelita Hancock” as we always called her, befriended me and my family when we moved to Palo Alto. Each Sunday she would take time to speak to us and ask how we were doing. I remember that she was especially kind to my girls. After we moved to Rexburg she would send us thoughtful, hand-written Christmas cards. On one occasion, when she was conducting some business at BYUI, Jean and Marguerite took the time to honor my family with a visit in our home. They asked us about our new life, shared a meal with us and played with my girls. I am sure they were both tired from their trip and busy with many important tasks, but Jean and her daughter made time to minister to us, and extend a hand of friendship. Jean Gong is a Godly woman who has gone on to her Celestial home. We honor her for her commitment to being a disciple of Jesus Christ.”
